About this event
Methods for Urban Encounters: Mapping The Esquire Theatre 320 Ludlow Avenue Wednesday, November 4 7–8:30pm / Doors open at 6:45pm
Presented in partnership with the Niehoff Center for Film and Media Studies , this three-part screening series offers new ways of understanding urban life through counternarratives and counterimages of the city. Highlighting what official city metrics, demographics, and maps cannot, each program focuses on a different method of encounter: observational documentary (September 9), sound (October 21), and mapping (November 4).
Kaïros Jennifer Alleyn, 2026 / minutes 91 minutes After a year of filming abroad, Manu, a once prominent actor, returns to his hometown of Montreal. But getting back into the business isn’t as easy as he thought. Against all odds, he lands a job hosting a nighttime call-in radio show. His listeners are mainly newcomers, refugees and exiles with varied life experiences, working graveyard shifts. Manu gradually appropriates this space to launch philosophical questions into the night as the film explores the spaces of Montreal from new perspectives.
