COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ohio hunters are donating their deer harvests through Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) program to supply free venison to food pantries during hunting season. Coordinators like Don Boling help turn each buck into meals for up to 200 people while managing a growing deer population.  WVXU
  • Great Parks of Hamilton County reported nearly 6.8 million park visitors and 1.2 million trail users this year, with Winton Woods remaining the most popular and Sharon Woods soon to overtake as it adds a new playground and improves trails (2020 numbers were higher).  WVXU
  • Bicyclists in the Tri-State area celebrated a strong 2025 and will expand local trail networks in 2026, using improvements along the Mill Creek corridor and projects like the Glenwood Gardens to Winton Woods trail, due for completion in fall 2027. An 11.5-mile Riverfront Commons Trail in Northern Kentucky will be developed in phases in the early 2030s.  Local 12 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Airlines will add up to three daily flights from CVG Airport to Chicago starting in 2026. The expansion will improve travel and business connections for local passengers.  WLWT
  • Holtman's Donuts announced that its West Chester outlet will close after New Year's Eve as it operates through today. Rising costs and family priorities drove the decision (its Loveland and Williamsburg shops will remain open).  WCPO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Year's Eve snow showers are expected to begin between 6 and 10 p.m. + continue past midnight with up to an inch of snow, while wind chills remain in the single digits and teens today.  WLWT
  • MetroParks of Butler County will collect live Christmas trees for recycling until Feb. 1 at Voice of America MetroPark, Rentschler Forest, Timberman Ridge and Meadow Ridge Metroparks — trees will be repurposed as fish habitats in local lakes and ponds. Residents must remove ornaments and lights before dropping off trees.  WLWT

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Healthcare and TriHealth are locked in a contract dispute that may force patients to find new care providers if a new deal is not reached soon (negotiations are ongoing).  FOX 19 Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Hamilton will begin construction on two delayed hotel projects in 2026 that include the dual Hilton project on North MLK Jr. Boulevard and High Street and the Municipal Hotel project. Together they will add about 300 new rooms to the current 400 to boost local tourism for sports visitors.  WCPO
