Good morning, Hamilton. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 11th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local groups and neighbors helped fill food gaps after SNAP benefits were cut on November 1—Lincoln Heights Outreach held a drive-thru, grocery buddy programs assisted with shopping, and state aid bolstered the Freestore Foodbank until a budget deal reopens the government. Community efforts have kept food available for families until a resolution is reached.  WVXU
  • A recent report shows that over 30,000 seniors in Hamilton County face high housing costs—rising rent, mortgage, and upkeep expenses stretch their fixed incomes thin. The study found that many older residents must cut back on essentials as unexpected expenses impact their quality of life.  The Enquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After Halloween, Hamilton County ReSource is urging residents to avoid tossing their carved pumpkins in the trash because they can create methane in landfills that harms the environment. Residents can donate pumpkins to local farms for animal feed, use them in recipes, or compost them — a sustainable option for reducing climate impact.  WVXU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Butler County Veterans Service Commission is facing growing demand as federal funds for veteran health care and benefits increased more than 50% since 2019 while the number of local veterans declined. The board said it is understaffed and plans to move to a larger facility by 2027 while boosting programs such as suicide prevention & housing support.  Journal-News
  • More than 520 crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation worked late Sunday night and early Monday morning to clear roads after the first snow flurries fell in Ohio. Drivers on main roads and overpasses took extra caution while crews treated hazardous spots (state efforts kept roads safe statewide).  WLWT
