EDUCATION NEWS

  • An 18-year-old college student was elected to the Lakota school board today. He will join other board members to decide policies for the district—marking a first for youth representation in local education.  FOX 19 Now
  • Mt. Healthy City Schools saw voters turn down a 3-mill levy that would have raised about $1.5 million for basic operations, and officials now plan changes that may cut athletics, clubs, and art programs. The rejection adds to budget troubles that already led to cutting over 100 staff positions and services (district leaders will update the community soon).  WCPO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio House passed House Bill 471 to designate a section of I-275 in Hamilton County as Deputy Larry Henderson Memorial Highway — honoring the retired sheriff's deputy who died in May while directing traffic at a University of Cincinnati graduation. The bill now moves to the Ohio Senate for further review.  WLWT
  • Facing a federal shutdown that lowered SNAP benefits, Butler County commissioners approved a $125,000 donation to Shared Harvest Foodbank—supporting 32 local pantries with enough funds to buy about two truckloads of food for families in need. Commissioner T.C. Rogers suggested the donation to help fill the gap left by reduced federal support.  Journal-News
  • The Ohio House passed House Bill 471 to designate a section of I-275 as the Deputy Larry Henderson Memorial Highway in Hamilton County— the bill will move to the Senate for further review. Deputy Henderson served 33 years with the county sheriff’s office and was killed on May 2 while assisting with traffic control during a commencement ceremony.  Local 12 News
