  • Madison Township firefighters rescued a blind horse that got stuck in an inground pool on Michael Road Wednesday morning + Reily Township FD’s Large Animal Rescue Unit also helped and the horse did not appear injured.  WLWT
  • Reach Out Lakota food pantry in West Chester is preparing for a surge in visits if SNAP benefits are suspended next month—shelves are full from over 50,000 donated food items even as visits have risen by about 20% this year.  FOX 19 Now

  • Crews battled a house fire in Hamilton today—leaving one family displaced as emergency responders worked to control the blaze.  FOX 19 Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six candidates are running for three seats on the Northwestern Local School District Board of Education in Hamilton— the election is on Nov. 4. They include community members and experienced nominees who aim to improve school safety, budget oversight and academic success.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Baker & Taylor, one of the largest vendors supplying books to libraries, is shutting down and may cause delays for new releases. Hamilton County and Kenton County libraries have already begun switching to other suppliers to keep services running.  WVXU

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study by Wright State University found that untreated mental illness cost southwest Ohio $30 billion each year, and its counseling director Barbara Marsh advised employers to adopt measures like Mental Health First Aid training + flexible work policies to help workers receive proper care. These steps, she said, may reduce the economic impact while ensuring that employees feel valued.  WVXU
