- ➤ Two students from Summit Country Day School are urging safer bike routes after a fatal crash that killed Dylan Straughn and a separate incident injured a 13-year-old, saying close calls with drivers have made them feel unsafe. They rode local routes and highlighted dangerous crossings at Red Bank Road and State Route 28—calling for measures like painted crosswalks and elevated crossings. WCPO

- ➤ Easton McCullough, a 5-year-old entrepreneur known as 'Mr. Tuddles' on Instagram and TikTok, saved funds from his lemonade stand to buy a trailer for a portable bait shop—opening today at Hamilton Bait and Tackle from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local 12 News
- ➤ Baker & Taylor, a major supplier to public libraries, closed operations after a failed acquisition deal, causing delays in new book shipments. Local libraries in Boone and Kenton counties (and others) are switching to alternate vendors while eBooks remain available. Local 12 News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local 12 and the University of Cincinnati's Alpaugh Family Economics Center are tracking grocery prices across the Tri-State (Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio) to help shoppers understand price shifts. The team is gathering data on 58 items (milk, eggs, bananas, ground beef, coffee, and chips) and found that prices for apples, canned soup and deli turkey have increased while chicken prices dropped. - ➤ Tomoyasu, an adaptive athlete who was paralyzed in a 2021 rock-climbing accident, organized the first Adaptive Nature Walk near Miami University to let people with mobility challenges ride handcycles on the paved trails from the DeWitt Cabin parking area along Oxford Trenton Road. Participants made 72 observations and identified 44 species (Bridge Adaptive Sports and Recreation co-sponsored the event) as they connected with nature and science. Journal-News
- ➤ Northwest Local School District broke ground on Colerain Elementary at the former Houston Early Learning Center site on Compton Road. The new school—backed by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission and replacing a building over 100 years old—will hold its first classes in fall. Local 12 News
