EDUCATION NEWS

  • Federal student aid applications for 2026-27 are now open and will be processed despite the government shutdown - the education department advised families to apply soon to meet state deadlines, with Ohio's due by June 30 and Kentucky using a first-come-first-served system.  WLWT
  • Talawanda School District terminated the contract of an administrator last month after detecting a criminal record in Montgomery Court records—he had not disclosed his past conviction on his application. The board said his contract allowed termination for undisclosed records and has since added a signature requirement to improve its hiring process.  Journal-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Under first-year coach Amy Henry, the Southeastern girls soccer team broke 31 school records and finished the regular season 10-6-1 while shifting player roles to cover injuries. They now aim for a historic postseason run as they build on an impressive record-setting season.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Lawrenceburg native Nick Goepper has been named to the U.S. Freeski Team—he is on the half-pipe pro squad as the 2025 X-Games super-pipe champion and three-time Olympic medalist. He grew up skiing at Perfect North and will compete in upcoming events, including a freeski World Cup in Austria next month ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics.  WLWT
