CRIME NEWS

  • Residents in Groesbeck said speeding drivers ignoring stop signs at the intersection of Chesswood Drive and Driftwood Circle endanger neighborhood children while limited police staffing—resulting from a 22% reduction—has left enforcement efforts lacking as officials plan to expand resources if a levy is approved in November.  WCPO

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library has launched an exhibit called Urban Appalachian Kith and Kin that shows how Appalachian migrants helped shape local food, music and traditions. The exhibit runs through December with an opening reception on Oct 19 from 2:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. at the main library Downtown.  WVXU

  • Matthew 25: Ministries in Blue Ash is hosting a drive-through giveaway today from 1—4 p.m. to offer boxes of home goods and personal care items to federal workers impacted by the ongoing government shutdown; supplies are available while they last and workers must show proof of employment.  FOX 19 Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati is offering help with expanded shelter capacity and case management to support victims leaving abusive homes. Community events include Purple Thursday on Oct 23rd + a candlelight vigil at the Hamilton County Courthouse + public outreach to educate on healthy relationships.  WLWT

  • In high school football this week, Hamilton’s Badin will host Alter on Friday night as both teams seek playoff seeding—Anderson, North College Hill, and Taft also have key road games that could affect their postseason runs.  WLWT
  • Ross High claimed its first outright Southwestern Buckeye League title with a 9-1 division record as its volleyball team heads into tournament play. Senior Bosse, who led the conference with 373 kills and will join Miami University next season, helped drive the team's success — showing strong leadership and hard work.  Journal-News
  • An official state historical marker honoring Joe Nuxhall will be dedicated Saturday at noon in Hamilton at L.J. Smith Park—where Reds scouts discovered him. Nuxhall, the youngest player in Major League Baseball history, spent 16 years in the majors and 40 in the Reds broadcast booth.  Local 12 News
