- ➤ Oxford Lane Library had a small electrical fire Monday that affected its children’s department and damaged some furniture and computer stations—cleanup is underway and the branch may reopen today while the children’s area stays closed until books are professionally cleaned. A decision about Friday’s planned anniversary party has not been made. WVXU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Former chaplain Ayman Soliman was detained for 72 days in Butler County Jail after his asylum was terminated and he was released recently when his status was reinstated. He described harsh conditions and isolation that worsened his mental health—he also lost his job as he could no longer work legally in the United States. Local 12 News
- ➤ Butler County commissioners considered a plan to dissolve the county's independent emergency management agency amid strong concerns from police, firefighters, and community members about public safety. They will vote on the proposal next Tuesday—officials also denied any plan to put the sheriff in charge. WLWT
- ➤ The Lincoln Heights council postponed voting on a motion asking the Sheriff’s Office to review evidence from the Feb. 7 neo-Nazi demonstration because earlier investigations found no cause for arrests — council members raised concerns and said they may revisit the issue in a future meeting. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A resident of Sycamore Township was confirmed to have West Nile virus and recovered at home after treatment. Public health officials treated standing water with mosquito larvicide near the home—following positive tests from mosquito traps in nearby townships. The Enquirer
- ➤ The Hamilton County Public Health Department confirmed the first human West Nile virus case in 2025 when a resident (from Sycamore Township) tested positive; officials warned that while most infections cause mild symptoms, the virus can lead to serious illness and urged residents to avoid mosquito bites. - ➤ A person in Sycamore Township contracted West Nile Virus and recovered after likely being bitten by a mosquito in the Tri-State, with Hamilton County Public Health being notified on Aug 28. Officials performed mosquito surveillance and treated standing water near the home (three mosquito samples tested positive this year) to reduce further risks. Local 12 News
