ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Traffic was backed up on I-74 in Green Township after a crash Tuesday morning — the Ohio Department of Transportation said the right shoulder east of Rybolt Road is blocked and alternate routes are advised as crews clear the scene.  WLWT

CRIME NEWS

  • A Springfield Township woman, 56, is accused of scamming renters by taking deposits and rent while leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when officers pushed her car off the road – she faces theft, failure to comply, and obstruction charges.  Local 12 News
  • On Aug. 29, the Ohio First District Court of Appeals ruled that prosecutors cannot use key evidence in Elwood Jones' new murder trial because his defense did not get to cross-examine a dead witness— a setback for Hamilton County prosecutors in linking Jones to a 1994 murder.  The Enquirer
  • The Butler County Sheriff warned that scam callers are tricking people by demanding $2,500 for inmate release — a fee set by the court system, not the jail, and advised anyone contacted to hang up immediately.  Journal-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio's new law will require drivers under 21 to complete an approved driver education course with 24 hours of classroom instruction, 8 hours of instructor led training and 50 hours of supervised driving before they can get a license. The rule will take effect Sept. 30 and follows data showing nearly 155,000 crashes with 400 deaths and over 40,000 injuries among young drivers—prompting extra safety measures.  WLWT
