CRIME NEWS

  • The defense for Rodney Hinton, Jr. filed a motion on May 27 to bar the jury from viewing photos and videos of slain Deputy Larry Henderson—arguing that such evidence could inflame jurors and compromise a fair trial while his case progresses with charges of aggravated murder, murder and felonious assault.  WLWT
  • A 17-year-old teen, Jayshawn Cornelius, was shot and killed in Westwood on Tuesday when someone fired 14 shots into his home—his family honored him with a balloon release while police continue to search for the suspect.  Local 12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Ohio House introduced a tax reform package that will save property owners $3.5 billion in January by forcing local taxing bodies to find other funds—Rep. David Thomas said the current system is broken. The package includes three bills under review that will adjust school funding and county budgets after property taxes climbed sharply.  Journal-News
  • The Cincinnati Police Department is accepting applications from Hamilton County residents for its next recruit class, with the academy beginning on April 27, 2026 and applications due by July 4 (candidates must be at least 20 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and hold a valid driver’s license); recruits will earn $58,487 before graduating to officer status with starting salaries of $77,048 that increase to $94,936 after five years.  FOX 19 Now
  • Liberty Township officials said a cyber incident on May 5 was caused by a ransomware attack that made accessing emails difficult and left phone service spotty for a short time — they added that services and the sheriff’s substation were not affected while the investigation continues. Residents can still reach township officials by phone, email, social media, or the website.  Journal-News
