CRIME NEWS

  • A 43-year-old woman, Christinia Sumner, was arrested for desecrating graves at Rose Hill Funeral Home and Burial Park on May 26 when she removed flags, tossed aside flowers from gravestones, and shifted items between graves—she is now held on a $5,000 bond.  FOX 19 Now
  • Prosecutors in Hamilton indicted 68-year-old Smiley Watts on three rape and one attempted rape charge and 63-year-old James Moore on one rape charge after a January report led to a months-long investigation—Watts is linked by DNA to cases from May 19th, 2000, March 21st, 2015, February 16th, 2019, and January 3rd while Moore is charged in one incident—and both men are held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $250,000 bond.  WLWT
  • Two suspects, Zachary Stumpf and Terry Stiles, pleaded guilty for starting a fire that spread from a playground to the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge in November, causing more than $12 million in damage and months of traffic delays—Stiles received a sentence of nine to 13.5 years while Stumpf will face up to three years in prison in June.  Local 12 News

  • One lucky lottery player won a $500,000 cash prize when they bought a 'Billion' scratch-off for $50 at Sunoco on Main St in Hamilton. After paying mandatory state and federal taxes (28%), the winner will receive $360,000 and two top prizes remain in the game, according to the Ohio Lottery.  WLWT

  • A 9-year-old Hamilton boy called 911 on May 2 when his mother Niki Ware passed out at home from high blood pressure, helping to save her and her unborn daughter. Doctors say his quick action prevented a serious lack of oxygen—an act his family calls heroic.  WLWT
  • Kettering Health doctor offices are open for walk-in appointments for established patients as they work with paper charts after a May 20 cyberattack disrupted digital records.
