  • Hamilton’s only dog park got a fresh upgrade after Bridgeport Elementary students sparked a project with a $500 nano-grant (turning it into a $35K renovation). It was rededicated on May 14 at Veterans Park on New London Road, providing new off-leash equipment and synthetic turf for dogs.  Journal-News
  • Hundreds attended the Middletown Rocks benefit concert for Community Building Institute on Thursday, May 14 at Sorg Opera House in Middletown, raising funds to support local community projects.  Journal-News
  • Local families and supporters will gather today at Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park on Riverside Drive for the Angelman Strong Walk, which begins with registration at 9 a.m. and a walk at 10 a.m. to boost funds for research and support for Angelman syndrome.  Local 12 News

  • After Kyle Lee died on May 11 when his car hit a tree on Plainfield Road, longtime friend Chris Ward operated his food stand at Blue Ash and Sycamore Road Friday until 7 p.m. to raise funds for Lee’s funeral costs.  FOX 19 Now

  • Dan Junker, 70, works five days a week at Skyline Chili in Oakley (marking 48 years on the job) where he works with his brother Doug every Wednesday. They started in Norwood and still serve cheese coneys and three-way sandwiches with steady dedication.  WCPO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the U.S.S. Cincinnati Cold War Memorial Peace Pavilion opens at the Voice of America Broadcast Museum on Tylersville Rd. in West Chester, honoring a 30-year legacy and featuring interactive kiosks and upcoming STEM programming for local students + a tribute to retired submariners.  Local 12 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Staff from Valco Melton and the Paperboard Packaging Council taught 480 fifth graders at E.H. Green Intermediate how trees link to everyday products, recycling, and the environment. Students received saplings to plant as part of the Trees Into Cartons, Cartons Into Trees program.  Local 12 News
  • Local high school valedictorian Yirialis Diaz-Mercedes was named a 2026 Gates Scholar, an honor given to about 1% of 61,000 applicants nationwide. She will attend Notre Dame on a pre-law track to study political science.  Local 12 News

  • A report from Protect Our Care warns that Medicaid cuts may force over 500,000 Ohioans to lose coverage in the next decade and lead to 31 hospital and clinic closures. State representatives say emergency rooms will face added stress and rural residents will have to travel further for care.  WVXU
