COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bob Suddendorf, a World War II veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday at Brookdale Senior Living Home in Springdale as family, friends and fellow veterans honored his legacy + service. His daughter, Cindy, said he feels happy and strong despite a recent stroke.  WLWT
  • The Columbia Connector project will link two popular trails by extending an existing paved path from behind 50 West Brewing near the Little Miami River to a section near the Mariemont Public Library (fully open by spring). Bidding starts next month and construction will begin this fall.  Local 12 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • During Holy Week, thousands attended the Mass at Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains on Holy Thursday. In Mount Adams, many began the Praying of the Steps after Archbishop Casey blessed the stairs at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, with the climb continuing all day Good Friday.  WLWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • L. Helen Rankin, the first Black woman to serve in the Ohio House, died March 22 at age 89. She was a dedicated public servant who fought for health care + affordable housing and social justice in Hamilton County.  WVXU
  • The Public Utilities Commission allowed AEP Ohio to increase its base distribution revenue by $11 million—less than the $97 million originally requested—and to add a minimum monthly charge for new data center customers. The change is expected to lower customer bills by over $1 a month.  WVXU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts note that a new COVID variant called cicada has been detected in Ohio with few local cases so far + researchers warn it may spread more in the coming months, so residents should stay up to date on vaccinations and follow safety guidelines.  WVXU
