CRIME NEWS

  • The Butler County OVI Task Force will conduct an impaired driving checkpoint today—times and location will be announced on the day as part of efforts to reduce OVI-related injuries and fatalities.  Journal-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Calabria Pizza has added a bold new mural that blends pop culture, comic, and graffiti styles — it features the Statue of Liberty made of New York-style pizza. Motorists traveling west on Main Street will soon see the artwork — it will be completed in the next week or two.  Journal-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brian Ames (the Open Meetings Act Bounty Hunter) spent 10 years suing local governments for not following state open government laws. He won most cases and filed a new suit against West Geauga Local Schools earlier this month to keep government actions clear to the public.  WVXU
  • Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said that 10 deputies and 4 correction officers will soon start a week-long, 16-hour-a-day ICE training program so they can arrest illegal immigrants during routine stops. The Butler County Jail currently houses 160 ICE detainees—federal funds pay for their training and transport.  FOX 19 Now
