CRIME NEWS

  • Vision and Beyond co-founder Stas Grinberg was arrested in Houston on fraud charges and is held at FDC Houston (a federal detention center) as federal authorities allege he committed wire and bank fraud while investors claim the firm abandoned Cincinnati rental properties that left residents facing severe issues.  WVXU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakota Schools expects enrollment to rise slightly for the next few years then fall to around 16,000 in 2029 as housing and generational cycles shift—officials plan to update or replace some of the district's 23 schools to better manage overcrowding.  Journal-News
  • Forest Hills Schools Board announced on Saturday that it chose Mark Bell from 29 candidates to fill the seat left vacant when board member Katie Stewart resigned after moving out of the district. Bell is an accountant and professor at the University of Cincinnati who served as treasurer for Turpin Athletics Boosters and will be sworn in next month.  WVXU
  • Princeton City School District filed an emergency operating levy for the May 6 ballot to avoid further cuts and possible school closures after a failed November levy forced a hiring freeze and reduced services. If the levy fails, the district will make extra cuts+including staff reductions and the closure of two elementary schools+while approved funds begin collection in 2026.  The Enquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana’s Natural Resources Commission approved a bobcat-trapping season in 40 southern counties from Nov. 8 to Jan. 31—licensed trappers may take one bobcat per year pending final signatures. Ohio wildlife officials said they will monitor the effect this season may have on the growing bobcat population in southern Ohio.  WVXU
  • On Saturday, Hamilton County Great Parks staffers and a dozen volunteers joined a multi-state Ohio River Sweep to remove trash along Woodland Mound Park's riverbank starting at 9 a.m. They worked for about three hours while Paul Stineman said the event showed local support for conservation and that another sweep is scheduled for July.  WLWT
