CULTURE NEWS

  • Kickin' it with Ken will host a St. Patrick's Day weekend celebration at The Banks with Irish coffee + Guinness and a parade energizing local festivities.  FOX 19 Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • MetroParks launched its Pearmageddon initiative to tackle invasive callery pear trees. Butler County homeowners who remove a tree by April 2 can get a free native replacement on Saturday, April 4 at Rentschler Forest MetroPark—removed trees from parks are repurposed as fish habitat at VOA Lake.  WVXU
  • Friday's Wind Advisory brought gusts up to 56 mph in Hamilton and left over 6,000 Duke Energy customers without power in Greater Cincinnati - the highest local gusts were noted. A cold front will bring rain, storms and a temperature drop to the 30s on Monday morning.  WLWT
  • Callery pear trees are blooming along roadsides despite a statewide ban that made buying, selling, or planting them illegal in Jan. 2023 because they harm the environment; officials advise local residents to remove or treat existing trees (using herbicides soon after cutting) to prevent further spread.  WLWT

  • Residents can attend the Black Family Wellness Expo on Saturday, Mar. 21 at New Prospect Baptist Church on Summit Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event offers health screenings, workshops, food, music + a session on men’s health to empower families.  WLWT

  • Hundreds gathered at the Sharonville Community Center on Friday from 6–8 p.m. to honor Olympic skier Connor Curran, who won Team USA's 11th gold medal in freestyle skiing at the Winter Games. The celebration featured a Q&A with Curran and family activities led by Mayor Kevin Hardman.  WLWT
