COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Vincent de Paul will distribute free, new coats to Hamilton County residents on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 12-3 p.m. at the Liz Carter Center in the West End+ a surprise donation has allowed extra coats to be added to the roughly 5,000 planned this season.  WLWT
  • Sara Peters (Community Health Alliance specialist) has been fielding up to 150 calls in icy weather to help people experiencing homelessness in Hamilton, and she expects one individual to receive a housing voucher and move in February.  WCPO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Oxford farmer Jennifer Bayne is fighting bitter cold (spending thousands on propane) to keep her winter crops alive at 7 Wonders Farm. The harsh conditions may force her to downsize her operations, and she said community support is vital to staying afloat.  WCPO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton City Schools announced a plan to cut nearly $10 million in operating costs for fall 2026; the plan includes closing Fairwood Elementary and merging the freshman campus with Hamilton High while 153 positions will be cut.  WVXU
  • Publicly funded daycares in Hamilton are recovering lost funds from recent snow closures + the centers are filing reimbursement claims to cover operational costs. Officials say this step will help stabilize services for families.  FOX 19 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hamilton crews moved about 50 million cubic feet of snow to a city lot to clear downtown streets and keep small businesses open, with teams from public works, gas & water, and resident services ensuring public safety.  WLWT
  • A major flood control project on Mill Creek nears completion and will be handed to the Millcreek Valley Conservancy District, which lacks funds for its $12 million annual operating cost (City Council will review a $1.5M loan proposal at 10 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall).  WVXU

  • A fourth Minnick drive-through convenience store plus 11 two-unit villas have been approved at the northeast corner of River Road and Patterson Drive in Fairfield on 12.1 acres.
