GasLight Opera presents: An Evening of Gilbert & Sullivan

About this event

Please join us in welcoming GasLight Opera for their inaugural performance: a FREE evening of Gilbert & Sullivan classics from Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Mikado, and more!

Bring your friends and family for a night of music and laughs suitable for all ages.

Never heard of Gilbert & Sullivan? Don't know a Mauser rifle from a javelin???...ok no more inside jokes! The works of Gilbert & Sullivan are the baby bear's porridge of the world of musical theatre. Not quite broadway, not quite opera. The works are usually comic in nature and very light hearted, though they were never afraid to satirize current events of their time.

Gilbert & Sullivan became hugely famous for their "patter songs" i. e songs featuring a tremendous amount of text delivered at a breakneck pace. Popular examples include " The Major General's Song " from The Pirates of Penzance, the "Nightmare Song" from Iolanthe, and "When I was a lad" from H.M.S. Pinafore. These songs and more will be performed at the GasLight Opera Kick-off concert!
